Studio News and Travel Updates!

You may have seen our work around town lately. Our images made the cover for Reach Magazine as well as Cincinnati Wedding's Reception Planner special feature. The lucky couples are Christy and Nick and Kara and Nathan. Also, we will be in New Orleans at the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) national convention. We will be out of the office January 14-18th.

Mark and I will each be receiving National Photographer of the Year awards. To receive this honor a photographer must submit four entries and have all four entries be submitted into both the General Exhibit as well as the Loan Collection...not the easiest of challenges. We submitted four client wedding albums and had all four accepted into both exhibits. Shhhhh.....but rumor has it that we have one album that has made it into the Top Ten Best Wedding Albums in the Country. We'll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more.

We are also looking forward to photographing an engagement session in New Orleans. We then be photographing their wedding this June in New York. Lots of fun!

Amby & Dustin's New Year's Eve Wedding

Amby and Dustin ended our 2011 wedding season with a bang! They lucked out and had a very mild winter day allowing us to photograph outside the scenic Manor House. Their theme of mixing various shades of purple with silver and black tied in perfectly with a New Year's party vibe.

Amby and Dustin had a beautiful candlelit ceremony in the atrium of the Manor House. The colorful cobalt evening sky contrasted beautifully with the warm candle light. We had fun photographing in the atrium playing with the gorgeous lighting (photographer's get excited about that kind of stuff). Amby's Dad also performed the ceremony adding a very special personal touch.

Amby & Dustin's E-Session!

Even though we photographed their engagement session towards the end of the fall season, Amby & Dustin still lucked into some beautiful autumn colors. They are planning a New Year's Eve wedding, which will be the perfect way to end the year. Plus, they will always get to party on their anniversary!

Ciera and Brian wanted to tie their engagement session into their wedding theme by adding a soft vintage feel to it. We added an effect to the photos in Photoshop giving them the appearance of old film. We also then designed their save-the-date cards to resemble an old postcard. We're looking forward to the wedding this June!

Art & Missy's E-Session!

We photographed Art and Missy's engagement session at the University of Dayton, which is where they both attended college. The campus has many scenic spots to photograph and is a special spot for many Daytonians. We are looking forward to their wedding this March. Congrats!

Kate and Peter's E-Session!

Another beautiful engagement session from this past fall! The lovely Kate and Peter (and puppy too!) are getting married this fall at one of our favorite venues...Country Club of the North. I just hope the fall colors are as vibrant on their wedding day! Congrats!

Sarah & Trent's E-Session

This fall was crazy busy for us between weddings, portraits and engagement sessions! However, we are starting to get caught up and wanted to post some of our favorite images.

We had a great time photographing Sarah and Trent. The fall colors were at their peak during their session. Would you believe these were taken at a cemetery? I know...weird spot for an engagement session, but as you can see it photographs beautifully! Congrats!

Grace & Nick's Winter Wedding

Last weekend we had the honor of spending the day with Grace and Nick! It was the perfect December wedding day too...cold, but not too cold and no wind. Grace, Nick and their wedding party braved the elements for their wedding photos, but you would never tell they were freezing by looking at the images :)

We met the lovely Grace when she was the Maid of Honor at a wedding a couple of years ago. When she called to book us for her wedding, we were thrilled to work with her again. This time around she was the bride and her dear friend Kaitlin was the Maid of Honor! We just loved their jewel toned color palette of deep rich purples and peridot. The peacock feathers were a fun touch too. I think it all worked perfectly with Grace's beautiful auburn hair. Despite the chilly temperatures, we had a great time photographing Grace and Nick around downtown and the WSU campus.

Grace and Nick also did something kinda fun and different by having a computer with a web cam at the reception and guests could take their own photos and load them directly on to Grace and Nick's Facebook page for their wedding. Hallie and Matt at Dayton Art Institute

Last weekend we were lucky to celebrate with two of the most wonderful families as they came together for Hallie and Matt's beautiful wedding at the Dayton Art Institute. We have worked with Hallie's family since Hallie was just a kid. We've photographed everything from their bar and bat mitvahs, family portraits and senior portraits. We are so blessed to document the changing lives of so many families and we couldn't be happier for Hallie and Matt.

Hallie and Matt's wedding was gorgeous from start to finish from their romantic candlelit ceremony to their evening dancing under the stars. The museum couldn't have looked any prettier! Friends and family traveled in from all over the globe and it is very evident that Hallie and Matt are surrounded by love!

Kim and Chris at Dayton Art Institute

We had a perfect day with Kim and Chris and their wonderful friends and family. They were married at one of our favorite churches and in between the church and the reception we did every variety of location possible from parks, to urban, to the classic museum. You would never know it from looking at the photos, but we were rained on, snowed on and in between all that the sun would come out and shine. Kim and Chris get the award 'most unusual weather' on their wedding day.

Guests enjoyed dining and dancing under the cobalt blue sky of the museum's glass rotunda. Judging by the packed dance floor, all of Chris and Kim's friends and family had a great time celebrating with them. Congrats and Best Wishes to the newlyweds!

Lauren & Jonathan at The Metropolitan Club

We're on a roll with awesome fall weddings in downtown Cincy! Last weekend we got to photograph the lovely Lauren and Jonathan. We couldn't have asked for a better day either. Perfect weather, wonderful company, great vendors and super fun friends and family to hangout with!

Lauren and Jonathan incorporated many person touches throughout their wedding. Both are avid football fans so the Bengals Bus replaced the traditional limo. Lauren's uncle also owns a men's clothing store so the guys looked extra handsome. We loved the guys each wearing a coordinating, yet unique ties. Their love of wine country was evident in their selection of wines for the reception and was tied in with their table names as well. They also both love their hometown of Cincinnati so what better reception spot than The Metropolitan Club, which offers panoramic views of their city.

We had a wonderful time celebrating with Lauren and Jonathan as did their guests...the dance floor was packed all night (with some pretty creative dancing I might add)! Luren and Jonathan are enjoying lots of sunshine and sandy beaches on their honeymoon this week. Erin & John at The Westin

When Erin first met with us nearly a year ago to discuss Erin and John's wedding, she told us that she used to drive past our studio and look in the windows and say to herself, "Mark is going to photograph my wedding someday." We are thrilled that she felt that way because we couldn't have asked for a more sweet, kind and fun couple to work with than Erin and John.

They had planned a 'city chic' event at the Westin in downtown Cincinnati and their theme was delivered perfectly. The color palette of navy, copper and pewter looked lovely with the autumn colors and skyscrapers alike. Their ceremony had the backdrop of Fountain Square and guests danced the night away under the moonlight...thanks to Goodwin Lighting's creative lighting.

Erin, John and the wedding party braved the chilly autumn air so that we could use various spots around the city for their photos keeping with their 'city chic' vibe. We're so glad they did too because the images turned out beautifully. The shot of the wedding party walking has now become one of our new favorite images.

The heartfelt toasts, hugs and laughter make it very evident that Erin and John are surround by many friends and family that love them greatly. Don't you just hate that you only get to wear that gorgeous bridal gown one time? It seems like such a pity to take the most exensive article of cothing you've ever owned and box it up never to be seen again after just wearing it once.

Doing a Bridal Session after the wedding is a fun way to enjoy the dress just a little bit longer. It is also the perfect opportunity to shake things up a little. By changing your accessories, the groom's attire or photographic backgrounds you can get an entirely new feel to your images. The best part is that you are also no longer so worried about getting the dress dirty either.

Kristen decided to do a Bridal Session the week before she was to have her dress cleaned and preserved. They are then going to use these images to decorate their newly decorated home office. You can see their actual wedding day photos here.

Sarah & Patrick at Dayton Art Institute

Sarah and Patrick had the distinction of planning a destination wedding...to Ohio. They currently live in New Zealand, but traveled half away around the world to plan their wedding where their family and stateside friends could celebrate with them.

I'm sure the added miles and time zones made planning tricky at times, but thankfully family was right there to help them with planning their dream wedding. With Sarah's dress coming from Australia and their honeymooning in Hong Kong this couple has certainly made their wedding a worldly affair.

Friends and family certainly enjoyed their time with Sarah and Patrick during their whirlwind trip home. It's very evident that they are loved and missed here. The toasts were very touching and had everyone torn between laughter and tears. The celebration had the dance floor packed all night (and you know it's a good party when the guys all start wearing their ties as bandannas)!

Sarah & Patrick's E-Session

We met Sarah years ago at her brother's wedding and we're thrilled when she asked us to photograph her wedding this October. However, Sarah and Patrick had one dilemma...how do they plan a wedding from half a world away? Sarah and Patrick live in New Zealand and we're planning the wedding in Dayton where her family lives.

Luckily, Sarah and Patrick's family took over a lot of the work for them making the planning a little easier. Sarah and Patrick knew they were coming to town for about 10 days prior to the wedding so we had their engagement session on the calendar for almost ten months. We had just enough time to photograph them, design their sign-in-album and deliver it before the rehearsal dinner!

Jessica and Ian at the Dayton Marriott

Jessica and Ian had a chilly Fall day for their wedding, but they made the best of it and didn't let it slow them down. Jessica and her bridesmaids were especially good troopers enduring the cold weather as we photographed around Dayton. Looking at the photographs you would never guess that in between shots the girls were trying to wrap themselves up in any layers they could.

Jessica was a classically elegant bride and her black and white color palette couldn't be more timeless. I loved the black beads added to the white bouquets adding a hint of sparkle and drama. Sort of reminded me of one of my favorite wedding flowers the white Anemones. Adding their own twist to the wedding cake, Jessica and Ian decided to serve Killer Brownies from Dorothy Lane instead of cake. I saw a lot of brownies on people's dessert plates so I'm going to guess that those were a big hit ;)

As part of our winning Diamond Level Photographers of the Year for 2011, we were featured in Professional Photographers Magazine. It's a challenge and a thrill to compete each year in the International Print Competition (IPC) with the Professional Photographers of America (PPA).

Out of the thousands of IPC entrants only a dozen achieved the Diamond Level Photographer of the Year award, by having all four of their entries both Merit and Loan. The greatest thrill for us is knowing that it is actual client work that has been judged by our peers. We aren't the type of photographers to go out and photograph sunsets or bowls of fruit. We want to submit work that is literally created in the heat of the moment for our clients.

In the last few years, we've become known for wedding album entries. Instead of being critiqued on a single image from an event, we feel it is important to be judged on the whole body of work or story of a wedding. For us it is the ultimate test, to be creative, professional, consistent and meticulous not just for one shot, but for a whole day or thousands of shots.

It's a thrill to arrive at each of our clients weddings and tell ourselves, "Today is the day. Today we will get our next winning album." We believe that all of our work is a self portrait, and as artists, we want to be remembered for a complete body of work. Entering print competition keeps us constantly striving to be better than we were yesterday, and to never let good enough be good enough.

Lucky in Love...Save-the-Date Inspiration!

When we scheduled Chelsea and Joe's engagement session, we knew that we needed to help them get a few wedding chores off the wedding 'To Do' list. From their e-session, Chelsea and Joe needed save-the-date cards and their Sign-In-Album covered.

We've been helping Chelsea and Joe with their wedding invitations (see above) and their other printing needs and wanted to tie in their save-the-date cards to match everything else. Chelsea and Joe are getting married on St. Patrick's Day and when Chelsea saw DIY scratch-off cards on Martha Stewart, she knew that would be perfect for their 'Lucky in Love.' theme.

Together we worked with them to select clothing, location and the concept for their cards. Jennifer had the idea to make the heart and clover banner, which would eventually reveal the wedding date. We printed the cards and the envelope seals for them. Chelsea then add scratch-off paint and mailed the cards with a lucky penny enclosed. Great idea Chelsea!

Tori and Andrij at Dayton Country Club

Tori and Andrij had dated since high school so their wedding day was much anticipated! Since their lives have been so intertwined they planned a wedding to reflect their long lives together. Many of their guests and wedding party were people that they have known for decades and it was really sweet to see such close relationships amongst friends and family.

Their quintessential Dayton wedding included a ceremony at UD Chapel and reception at Dayton Country Club. With the last name of Wines, a wine theme was perfect! The centerpieces, which were also gifts for the guests, were wine bottles with Tori and Andrij's own private label. Grapevines, wine corks, tons of candles and rich green and plum colors rounded out the decor. It was a great color palette and theme for a fall wedding that didn't play off the traditional fall colors.

Tori and Andrij aren't honeymooning right away. Instead, they are settling into their new house and new lives together; however, they do have an awesome trip to France in a few months to look forward to! Carol & Tom at The Bell Centre

I know you hear us say how much fun we have at all our weddings, and you're probably thinking that we are stretching the truth; however, Carol and Tom's wedding was no exception! We drove around with them and the wedding party on their party bus all over downtown Cincy before the wedding, and laughed till our sides hurt. What a fun group of friends and family!

We really got to know Tom and Carol throughout their engagement and relished in how much planning and thought they put into their special day....even for those people who couldn't attend the wedding! Carol's sister is eight months pregnant and lives in Australia. She couldn't fly this close to her delivery date, but Carol and Tom brought the wedding to her. Rick (from Tres Chic Events) was the official Skper that day making sure that she could see Carol get ready, see the ceremony and the major events at the reception. Carol also added a stuffed kangaroo to shots throughout the day so that her sister was still included in photos.

Carol and Tom are big history buffs and the Bell centre provided plenty historic flavor. Their centerpieces and decor elements all played off of a Roman theme with classic sculptures, Chianti bottles, candles galore and vibrant reds. The twist to it all....Tom is a huge classic rock fan so they walked up the isle to some great headbanging tunes as well as throughout cocktail hour.

Christine and Justin at Country Club of the North

Christine and Justin are both into competitive cheer and dance (in fact that's how they met...Justin was her stunt coach), and we couldn't have asked for a more fun and vibrant couple to photograph! We had a blast hanging out with their friends and family and laughed our way through the entire day. We also got to see a lot of familiar faces from previous weddings we've done. It's always fun to catch up with people!

Country Club of the North was the perfect setting for a perfect fall day. The temperature was just right for their beautiful outdoor ceremony and for dancing under the stars on the back patio. Their classic color scheme of white, silver and red looked wonderful at CCN and on the wedding party. The band had the dance floor jumping all night and guests certainly had a great time!

Beverly and Dale at The Manor House

Beverly and Dale are a super sweet couple, and the moment you meet them you know that they are meant to be together. In fact, Dale was so anxious to propose to Beverly that he first popped the question in a butcher shop, and Beverly said, "No, because I don't want this to be our engagement story." Later that weekend in a more romantic spot, Dale re-asked the question and got the "Yes!"

The two planned their dream wedding together with lots of beautiful details. Their color scheme of deep reds, gold and brown looked perfect for a fall wedding. The ceremony was very touching and had all the guests crying and laughing right along with Dale and Beverly. The day provided for many inspiration photographic moments too. I just love the sepia image above of Dale's family sneaking a peak at the ceremony before they started their walk down the isle. The image of Beverly and her Mom holding the bouquet with her Father's photograph is also touching.

The wedding party consisted of family members and very close long term friendships. It was fun getting to hear about all the fun stories that they have all compiled together. Elizabeth and Brad at Drees Pavilion

Elizabeth and Brad said that they picked us to photograph their wedding because we could 'do funky, elegant and everything in between.' Well, I think they got their wish because we literally went from urban locations to parks to the church and covered all the bases.

Summer had decided to give us one more near 100 degree day, but the heat didn't slow us down any. We had a great time laughing with the wedding party and getting to know Elizabeth and Brad's wonderful family. Elizabeth and Brad had dated for over fourteen years so many people had waited a long time for their special day.

Elizabeth and Brad made sure the party got off to a great start with a fun choreographed first dance. Elizabeth and her dad then did the best father daughter dance ever by doing the dance scene from the end of the Napoleon Dynamite movie. Everyone was in stitches! The dance floor was packed all night and Elizabeth looked lovely in her second gown as well!

Shannon and Jeff's Columbus Wedding

Shannon and Jeff planned a beautiful vintage inspired wedding with lots of wonderful details. What they hadn't planned on was the rain that came last Sunday; however, we lucked out and managed to dodge the rain showers just long enough to get photographs done outdoors. The moment we stepped inside for cocktail hour it started to pour. Talk about timing!

The wedding was held in the beautiful chapel of Jeff's former catholic high school. The priest was visiting from Ireland. With the gothic architecture of the chapel and the priest's wonderful accent, the ceremony had a very old world feeling to it. Shannon and Jeff also added many unique and thoughtful touches to their event. Shannon's bouquet was made of vintage broaches, pins and costume jewelry. Many of the broaches were from family members and had a lot of sentimental value. The bridesmaids wore dresses from White House Black Market and carried clutches instead of floral bouquets. The groomsmen all had boutonnieres made of peacock feathers and whimsical socks.

The reception was decorated with collectibles, books and other fun items that Shannon and Jeff had scouted for. Shannon has a love of fine cuisine and they carefully selected the menu for the different themed food stations. The Loft at Smith Brother's was the perfect spot to host their event. The exposed beams and brick walls complimented the vintage decor perfectly.

We had a wonderful time with all of Shannon and Jeff's friends and family and its evident that they are surrounded by love! Shannon and Jeff are now honeymooning in Italy....so jealous! Katie & Tyler's Schuster Center Wedding

To say we had fun with Katie and Tyler and all their friends and family would be an understatement! Katie and Tyler wanted to have a relaxed, carefree day and not take the wedding day too seriously. We laughed all day and had a great time celebrating right along with them.

Katie and Tyler incorporated many traditions and mementos from their lives to personalize the day. They met at Ohio State so of course guests got to enjoy yummy Buckeye treats. Greek music and traditional dancing started off the festivities. Guests also could view a slide show of Katie and Tyler growing up throughout the years. And of course, the most important thing to Katie and Tyler was having so many friends and family travel from far and wide to celebrate their special day with them. It's very apparent that Katie and Tyler have many close relationships to cherish!

Melissa and Devon dated throughout their college years at Ohio State and used that for their wedding inspiration. Aside from the red color palette, guests also got to enjoy yummy Buckeye wedding favors and got to dance the night away to Hang on Sloopy :)

Their fun loving friends and wedding party had us laughing all day. Devon's Bestman made a great toast and stole the show at the reception trying to win the scavenger hunt. Melissa and Devon also surprised their guests by turning their firs dance into a flash mob with the rest of the wedding party and a few guests joining in on the fun...great idea guys!

Melissa and Devon had also picked the Manor House for their ceremony and reception. The perfect amount of clouds rolled in just in time for the ceremony making perfect lighting (us photographers love that sort of stuff). The lush garden and gazebo made for a beautiful ceremony. Brittany and Jonathan, Shawnee Country Club

Brittany and Jonathan have known each other since kindergarten and their wedding day was another wonderful in their long history together. Their friends and family are all very close, which made for one great party at the reception!

Their wedding was at the Shawnee Country Club near Lima, Ohio. We rarely get to travel that far north, but the trip was definitely worth it! We had a great time laughing with the wedding party and their families all day. I think we all had just enough fun to forget about the hot August weather.

Brittany and Jonathan had a fun color palette of hot pink and royal blue and added touches of whimsy with their polka dot cake and flower girl dresses. Guests also got the extra treat of having their own miniature versions of the bridal cake delivered to their tables. If their sweet tooth was happy yet, they also could enjoy the cotton candy machine (with blue and pink cotton candy of course!) and the assortment of gummy candy skewers.

Kim and Brian and Dayton Art Institute

Last weekend we had the honor of photographing Kim and Brian's elegant wedding at the Dayton Art Institute. Mother Nature decided to have the biggest heatwave of the year with temperatures in the triple digits. However, we worked with frequent air conditioning breaks and didn't let the heat get us down.

Brian works in the for Getty Images in Chicago so the pressure was on for us to get take great images :) The museum is the perfect venue this time of year because it has many beautiful places to photograph without having to go outside. Kim and Brian also had decorated with a classic black and white color palette making the museum look gorgeous.

Kim and Brian had many thoughtful touches throughout the wedding from all their nieces and nephews participating in the wedding (I love the shots of them walking down the isle) to Brian's Dads band performing during the reception. Friends and family traveled from far and wide to celebrate with Kim and Brian making for a very memorable evening.

Brittany & Jeff's Fort Piqua Wedding

We first met Brittany and Jeff at her brother's wedding last December. They weren't officially engaged at the time, yet everyone seemed to know it was only a matter of time :)

Brittany and Jeff's family are all closely tied to the farming industry and they had some fun and creative ways to tie in their heritage. During the ceremony they did a 'soil ceremony' instead of a 'sand ceremony' linking their two family farms together. Jeff also opted for cowboy boots instead of the standard glossy tux shoes.

Not letting the heat slow them down any, all of Brittany and Jeff's family had a wonderful time. The dance floor at the reception was packed all night. Guests especially enjoyed Brittany and Jeff's grand entrance into the reception, which was on a John Deere tractor with the song, 'You make my tractor sexy,' playing in the background.

Chelsea and Joe's Engagement Session in Cleveland

Chelsea is Mark's niece and has been photographing her since she was a baby. Since she and Joe just moved to the Cleveland area, we were happy to do their engagement session in their new hometown. We had a great time photographing downtown and along the waterfront.

Chelsea also did a great job of tying in their outfits with their wedding colors (green, blue and yellow) so that we can design save-the-date cards and their guestbook to match the wedding decor. Chelsea and her mom also came up with a really fun and unique save-the-date card idea that we will share with you shortly so be sure to check back.

Andrea and Adam are a fun loving couple and we truly had a blast photographing their wedding. They are very blessed to have such close family and friends...and such fun ones too! We literally laughed all day long.

Andrea and Adam are both University of Dayton grads so it was very fitting that their ceremony was at Holy Angels. We then photographed all around the beautiful campus and surrounding urban areas. We lucked out too that the morning rain stopped just in time for photographs. Guests were also treated with a celebrity appearance at the reception. 'Rudy' the UD Flyers mascot lead the charge for the high spirited grand entrance, which looked and felt like a pep rally...lots of fun!

Michele & Craig at Country Club of the North

We love it when everything just falls into place! What a wonderful day Michele and Craig had for their wedding...perfect weather, great friends, devoted family, beautiful venue...it just doesn't get any better! Michele and Craig are a fun couple, who don't take themselves too seriously (you can see that in their first dance photo when Michele chimed in with Etta James, "At last!"). The wedding party and families had us laughing all day too.

You know that we love events with great details and Michele and Craig's wedding was full of them. We loved the rich purple tones, which complimented the lush green backdrop of CCN. They had so many beautiful details that we made an InspireMe! Board with just a few of their lovely touches.

We had a lot of fun getting to know Michele and Craig all the way from how they first met at a bar to watching Craig in one of his famous air guitar solos. Michele's bubbly personality is perfect for being a teacher, which is evident in many of her students coming to the ceremony even though schools been out more a month already. It's clear to see that they are surrounded by a lot of love and friendship!

Shawna & Kyle at The Phoenix

After all the record breaking hot temperatures we've had for weddings this year, Shawna and Kyle lucked out and had the perfect wedding day! With temps in the 70's, a light breeze and beautiful fluffy clouds in the sky, we had a great time photographing around downtown Cincy. We even went to the Great American Ballpark since Kyle is a huge Red's fan.

Shawna and Kyle had their ceremony in the Chapel at Spring Grove, which is absolutely gorgeous. We had been on the grounds at Spring Grove before, but this was our first time in the chapel. With it's grand architecture and ample window light, it made for a beautiful ceremony. Guests were also treated to a bag piper escorting Shawna and Kyle back up the isle.

We even had time to stop at the firehouse where Kyle works for some fun photographs with the firetrucks before heading on to the reception at the Phoenix. After dancing the night away, Shawna and Kyle headed out early the next morning for their honeymoon in Cancun. Katie and Daryl at The Cincinnati Club

We had a lovely time photographing Katie and Daryl last weekend! We photographed them and their wedding party all over downtown Cincinnati and had a great time laughing the whole way. Even the weather cooperated giving us the first mild summer day...exactly what you would hope for a June wedding.

Many of the guests were from out of town and were treated to some of Cincy's best landmarks. Their ceremony was held at Mt. Echo park, which not only has beautiful panoramic views of the city skyline, but also beautiful lush landscaping around the pavilion. Getting married under the shade of the Elm trees is so romantic...and cool this time of year :) Their reception was held at the historic Cincinnati Club with it's stately ballroom's.

During the reception Katie and Daryl performed a traditional Chinese tea ceremony tying in some of Daryl's family culture. We also enjoyed their choreographed first dance, which had some fun and unexpected moves in it to keep it fun. Katie and Daryl have had the challenge of a long distance relationship while they were both finishing up their degrees, so I think everyone was extra excited to know that they finally get to start their lives together. The song we picked for their slide show fits their journey perfectly.

Kellie & Brandon at Dayton Art Institute

"Hot!" The only word that could accurately sum up Kellie and Brandon's wedding...hot weather, hot couple and one hot party! Kellie, Brandon and their wedding party were amazing troupers through the photographs in the 90+ heat and still managed to have fun and make photos look effortless.

We gave Kellie and Brandon a complete range of looks from the classic images at DAI to more fashion forward urban images. We took frequent breaks from the heat in between locations in the air conditioned party bus. Kellie had brought some parasols for the girls to stay out of the sun. We had fun photographing with them, and the guys not wanting to be outdone by the girls even made use of the parasols...you'll have to see those on Facebook :)

The sun was just starting to set for their outdoor ceremony in the courtyard at the museum, which photographed so beautifully. The setting made it look like they were in Tuscany. We loved Brandon's 'happy dance' recessional. Guests enjoyed cocktail hour in the Great Hall before going into the stunning reception room. Friends and family had the dance floor full all night making for one memorable party!

Valerie and Noah at Drees Pavilion

Valerie and Noah had one of those weddings that I just didn't want it to end. Even though we are normally exhausted after photographing two weddings in one weekend, we had so much fun with Valerie, Noah and crew that we were bummed when we had to stop photographing!

We had a blast laughing with the wedding party and were able to 'play' in some new locations (shhh...they're a secret!). Valerie was a trooper in her 6 inch heels, including climbing up big cement slabs...but, boy is that image worth it! I also have to say that the best man, Daniel, was the bestest best man ever! he never left Valerie and Noah's side and even helped carry Valerie's dress. What a great guy!

Guests were able to enjoy the panoramic views of the Cincinnati skyline from Drees Pavilion all throughout the ceremony and reception. It sort of makes you feel like you are on top of the world. Their hot pink and black color palette looked beautiful and their event was full of great details. Valerie even designed their unique wedding cake herself!

Sonia and Irfan at Newport Aquarium

Last Saturday we had the honor of working with Sonia and Irfan and their families. We had an absolutely wonderful time photographing their special day! We started at Ault Park, then went to Newport on the Levee and finished off with photographs inside the Newport Aquarium.

The aquarium was the perfect spot for their wedding since Sonia is a veterinarian. Her family said that she had been in love with animals and science since she was a little girl so it was the perfect match. Aside from the great choice of venues, the aquarium was decorated the prettiest that we've ever seen it with vibrant shades of blue and contemporary white floral centerpieces.

I love weddings with great details and Sonia and her mom, Maggie, left nothing out. The cuisine was well planned, complete with serving mini hamburgers and fries at the end of the night for all the dancers who worked up an appetite. Guests were able to enjoy dessert while strolling through the exhibits in the aquarium. While guests were strolling, the reception room was converted from dining room into a lounge ready for partying. Guests were also treated with a chocolate bar as well.

Our Charlie!

We are in the process of redecorating Mark's home office. The major construction is done and now its time for the fun stuff...decorating! The colors of the new office are black, gray, red and white. With that in mind, Charlie and I headed out to make some wall art for Daddy's office. It's perfect timing too since Charlie just turned 3 and a half (or as Mark says v3.5).

I haven't decided which image I'm using yet, but I'll put a picture of the finished product online once its hung. You can see more on the Studio's Facebook page.

PS. For all you Mom's out there the clothes came from the Baby Gap, accessories from Crewcuts (J.Crew for kids) and shoes from Target.

Kristen and Mike at Cox Arboretum

Kristen and Mike lucked out by having the first Saturday this spring without rain, which was perfect for their wedding at Cox Arboretum. We took advantage of the good weather and photographed all over the park. I love the photographs with the tall grasses under the big canopy of trees...so pretty!

Kristen chose beautiful spring inspired flowers for her bouquets, including my favorite the pink Peony! Their ceremony was held inside the all glass atrium at Cox, which made for beautiful photographs. It was a very touching ceremony and it was sweet to see Mike so moved.

It was a truly wonderful day filled with friends and family. Even the members of the band are friends of the bride and groom, and Mike did a fantastic job entertaining the guests by playing the drums for a few songs. We first met Brittany and Jeff last year when Brittany was a bridesmaid in her brother's wedding last December. Jeff proposed to her not too long after that and we are happy to be working with such a wonderful family again! Brittany and Jeff picked a friend of the family's farm as the backdrop for their engagement session. The open fields, covered bridge and old buildings provided plenty of scenic spots to photograph. We had a great time with them and are looking forward to their wedding later this summer. Congrats!

Maria and Chris at Hilton Netherland Plaza

Maria and Chris chose some of Cincinnati's prettiest venues for their Spring wedding. Their ceremony was held at the gorgeous St. Peter in Chains Cathedral, which photographs so beautifully. It was also a blessing that their ceremony was there because some Spring showers popped up when we were supposed to go outdoors for some photographs. St. Peters is the only church in downtown Cincy that has covered steps so we were able to keep photographing despite the rain.

Maria was smart and planned for rain and had gotten all the bridesmaids matching umbrellas in their wedding colors. Luckily the showers paused long enough for us to venture into the city for some more photographs before heading to the Hilton Netherland Plaza for the reception. The Hilton Netherland Plaza is known for its amazing art deco decor throughout the hotel and within their two elegant ballrooms. Maria and Chris' blue and gold wedding colors looked beautiful against all the gilded gold of the ballroom. Maria's family is Lebanese and they incorporated some traditional Lebanese food into the cocktail hour, which was a big hit with the guests.

Shawna and Kyle chose the beautiful backdrop of Ault Park for their engagement session a few weeks ago. We had a great time getting to know them as we walked all over the park. We love hearing the stories of how couples first met and Shawna and Kyle met a work. Many couples meet at work, but what makes their story unique is where they worked. Shawna and Kyle met while working a Kings Island. They both played cartoon characters that wear those big (and I'm sure hot) costumes walking around the park greeting visitors. Kyle was Scooby Do and Shawna was Wilma...the best Scooby treat ever! Congrats to the happy couple!

Emily & Jared's Marco Island Wedding

Emily & Jared are such a super sweet couple! We were honored to photograph their destination wedding on the beach of Marco Island, Florida. We hadn't been to Marco Island before and can see why they chose it for their wedding. The Marriott Resort on Marco was beautiful and had many picture perfect spots.

We loved Emily and Jared's bright tropical colors, which photographed beautifully against the snow white sand and tropical plants. Everything went according to plan, except for the brief monsoon that came through right before the wedding ceremony was to begin. I don't know how many times we looked at the radar that day, but the executive decision was made to delay the ceremony by 30 minutes.

Cocktail hour was bumped up before the ceremony so guests were able to enjoy appetizers and cocktails as we waited out the storm. The delay worked out perfectly because the storm past and they still got to have their dream wedding on the beach! Good things happen to those who wait...Emily and Jared's long history together proves that too!

Friends and family came from near and far to join the celebration. Jared and Emily were smart too by planning an after party at the hotel so that guests could dance the night away. Considering the great company and beautiful atmosphere, Emily and Jared will have a night they will remember and cherish forever.

The grounds of the Esplanade made for a great backdrop and wasn't too far from the marina where they were meeting for their rehearsal dinner. Later that afternoon, we then met up with them and their guests at the Marco Island Princess for a dinner cruise. What a great way to end the night! Bon Voyage!

Angela and Chad at Dayton Art Institute

Mother nature did not cooperate last Saturday, but that didn't stop Angela and Chad from their dream wedding. They had booked the Dayton Art Institute for their ceremony and reception, which worked out perfectly because it did give us some opportunities to photograph outside without getting wet or blown away.

Angela and Chad used a color palette and theme straight from nature making the museum look absolutely breathtaking. The Birch branches arching over the cake and tree-like centerpieces almost made it feel like you were in an enchanted forest. I love when couples aren't afraid to use color and the moss green wedding cake certainly got a lot of attention.

Angela and Chad had a small wedding party consisting of their kids and nieces and nephews. They also had friends and family travel from all over the globe to celebrate with them making for a very memorable evening. Angela and Chad are enjoying a two part honeymoon with the first stop in Napa Valley followed by a trip to Italy (have to say I wish we were going along too).

PPA District Judging Results!

The Professional Photographers of America, with nearly 22,000 members in the US and Canada, each year holds it's annual District Judging. We are apart of the Northeast District, which is shown in green on the map above. Two weeks ago, our District Judging was held and we thought we would share the results...

We entered the maximum number of entries, which is four. All four happened to be wedding albums from 2010 and one from 2009. In order to 'merit' a print/album has to score above an 80 on a scale of 0-100. We are very happy to say that all four of our entries merited with scores of 89, 90, 90 & 92.

Of all the entrants to our District competition, only 16 other photographers merited all four entries. Going 'four for four' is extremely coveted because it makes you eligible for two other very coveted and prestigious awards.

First, at the District level, you are eligible to win the Canon Par Excellence Award. With only five Districts, only five photographers in the entire country can win this award each year. Secondly, at the International Print Competition held later this June, you are then eligible to win some level of the Photographer of the Year Award.

We are very honored to say that we did win the Canon Par Excellence Award. We also now have the title of being the only photographers to have won it for the second time in it's five year history. We'll be sure to let you know the results of the International Judging later this summer.

A Bicycle Built for Two: Valerie and Noah!

So Valerie and Noah might have the best 'how did the meet story' that we've heard yet! They are both in med school and were taking a gross anatomy class. Valerie needed a lab partner and Noah volunteered. While dissecting a cadaver, he asked her out. Love works in mysterious ways! Valerie and Noah have a wedding planned at Drees Pavilion, which overlooks the Cincinnati skyline. In keeping with the Cincinnati cityscape, we photographed their engagement session on and around the 'purple people bridge.' They even rented a tandem bike and brought their puppy along making for a perfect Cincinnati afternoon. Congrats!

Matthew and Lauren at Country Club of the North

Matthew and Lauren got the '...out like a lion...' part of the spring weather last Saturday with wind, rain and chilly temps. However, we love a good challenge and the weather wasn't going to dampen any one's spirits!

Fortunately Matthew and Lauren had booked Country Club of the North, which has a lot of great window light and plenty of covered outdoor places to photograph. Venues like the Schuster Center, Dayton Art Institute and CCN provide great weather backup plans because they have some many beautiful spots with great light to photograph. The rain stopped just in time to go to the church and use the beautiful red doors out front. The weather even cooperated through their grand exit from the church.

Lauren's color palette of bright cheery florals mixed with plum made for a festive spring look and certainly brightened all the photos. A girl after my own heart, Lauren went with blue shoes as her 'something blue.' Matthew also lent his graphic design skills and made the invitations, programs, and table markers.

Despite the spring showers, it was a beautiful wedding filled with love and laughter. All of Matthew and Lauren's wonderful friends and family kept hearts warm, spirits up and the dance floor full! Our Week...

Soooo this is what our week looks like..."Hello, jet lag!" We will be out of the office with the exception of a few hours on Wednesday as we give a program to the Professional Photographers of Washington (PPW) and the Professional Photographers of New England (PPANE). The PPANE convention will also be hosting our District's Print Judging. We have entered the maximum possible entries of four wedding albums. Wish us luck! Needless to say, we will be checking emails and voice mails as best as we can, but will return the bulk of them next week. The good news is that this will be the last of our travel (with the exception of a destination wedding the last weekend in April). Thank you for your understanding!

Heidi & Matthew at the Dayton Raquet Club

Heidi & Matthew are a super sweet couple and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing their wedding day with them last weekend. Heidi and Matthew got married at Grace United Methodist Church off Salem Avenue, which we haven't photographed at in years. I had forgotten how pretty the church photographs and could have 'played' there all day.

Heidi and Matthew had a lot of fun details to their event that gave it sort of an 'old world' feeling to the wedding. Their church looked like a castle, they drove away in a vintage Packard, chose a classic color palette and of course looked very elegant in couture gown and uniform. Everything pulled together for a beautiful day.

Guests were able to enjoy the panoramic views of the city from the top floor of the Dayton Racquet Club. The dance floor was packed all night with friends and family celebrating the night away. Heidi and Matthew are continuing the wedding celebration by honeymooning for three weeks in Italy...so jealous!

Heather & Brent's Engagement Session

Jennifer and Heather went to high school together, but had lost touch with each other over the years. Through Facebook the two reconnected. Jennifer was happy to hear about what a wonderful soul mate Heather had found in Brent, and needless to say, was happy to do their engagement session once Brent finally popped the question.

The two are planning a fun wedding their way. Originally thinking that they wanted a destination wedding, their plans changed and they have essentially brought the tropical destination to Ohio. They are having a very small intimate ceremony on a Thursday at their home. They are then honeymooning in Jamaica and following that up with a tropical themed reception here in Dayton.

We love it when couples break the wedding mold and plan an event that reflects their personalities, lifestyle and needs. We wish them the best of luck and know that they will have many happy years ahead of them! Congrats!

Wedding Day at The Powel Crosley Estate

Joshua and Kristen had asked us if we could do their bridal portraits for the wedding, which we were happy to do. Mark had the honor of being Joshua's best man, as well as the role of dad and photographer, which made for a busy day. Fellow master photographers Al Gordon and David Ziser then covered the ceremony and reception allowing us to enjoy the rest of the wedding as guests.

Joshua and Kristen wanted a destination wedding, but didn't want their theme to be the traditional 'seashell themed' decor. They went with a contemporary color palette and primarily used tropical flowers to create a unique look. They subtly added starfish to compliment the destination theme.

We were all very touch by the nearly seventy guests who traveled from all across the country to celebrate Joshua and Kristen's wedding weekend. Many special people contributed to the day including her grandmother who made the veil, bridesmaid dresses and ties for the groomsmen. Thanks to all the family and friends who helped make their day so special! It was a wonderful wedding filled with memories that both us and the kids will cherish for years to come.

Rehearsal Dinner at The Beachouse, Sarasota

Many of you already know that Mark's son, Joshua, got married last week in Sarasota and we thought we would share a few of the photographs with you. The weekend festivities started off with the rehearsal dinner we hosted at the Beachhouse Restaurant, which is on the scenic Anna Maria Island. Tropical decor in their color scheme and a steel drum band added to the festive atmosphere. Guests enjoyed dining outside with panoramic views of the ocean. We took a break from the festivities just long enough to get a few great images of Joshua and Kristen during sunset. It was a magical evening under the stars that I'm sure none of us will ever forget!

Greta and Caleb in Los Cabos, Mexico

I had the pleasure of meeting the vivacious Greta on my research trip to Los Cabos, Mexico when planning the Society of XXV meeting. Greta captured my attention with her beautiful smile, warm heart and her sense of mischievousness. She had asked me to photograph her and her boyfriend, Caleb, on my return trip to Mexico a few months later.

I happily obliged Greta's photography request and was very glad that I did...what Greta and I both didn't know was that Caleb had planned to propose to her during our session! It definitely caught both of us off guard, but it was wonderful to watch the pure emotion of the moment.

Once the heart pounding thrill (she said 'yes,' by the way!) had subsided a little, we photographed the rest of their session on the gorgeous coastline and surrounding resorts. The thrill of the proposal had them both on cloud nine during their session and if really shows through their expressions. It was certainly one of the more memorable sessions...turned engagement sessions...that I have ever done!

I have to give Caleb credit for being such a romantic and for thinking up such a perfect engagement scenario. Congrats to such a cute couple and we wish them all the best! We already have one destination wedding in Mexico scheduled for 2012, hopefully we will have a second one now too! Muchas Felicidades!

Dayton Wedding Vendors...Thank You!

Some of you may already know that we have a wedding in our family this month. Mark's son Joshua is marrying Kristen in Florida later this month. Since they are doing a destination wedding, they wanted to have a 'Send Off Reception' for those guests who would not be traveling to the wedding.

We helped the soon-to-be-newlyweds plan this event and had lots of fun in the process. The kids wanted their party to be nontraditional, non-cookie cutter and above all super fun! With that in mind we booked the Taj Ma Garaj to hold the event. With it's nontraditional decor and game room, we knew it would be a memorable venue for guests.

We started with forgoing a sit down dinner. The whole evening was designed to be one big cocktail hour. Guests were free to mingle, eat, drink, play games in the arcade, dance, whatever they wished, whenever they wished.

Guests could sample food from the four different food stations (Asian, American, Carving Station, fine cheeses and fruits). Servers also passed beautiful trays of yummy finger foods as well. The bar offered a full line of wines, beers and a 'Signature Drink' of frozen Margaritas. The cookie and candy bar was meant to be enjoyed all night so guests were able to sample the sweets during the party as well as take some home.

In keeping with the kids desire to not be 'too stuffy or conforming,' linens and centerpieces were all different, but were in keeping with the red and black color palette. Four different types of tablecloths were used and combined with different textured overlays. There were also six different centerpieces ranging from all floral to all candles with mixtures of both in between. We also mixed the table sizes and heights. We opted for smaller tables holding between 4 to 8 chairs max making for more intimate conversation spots.

We wanted to give a very special thank you to the Dayton wedding vendors who helped make Joshua and Kristen's party so wonderful. There are many fabulous vendors in town and it was hard to pick just a few to use. Thank you for making our party such a success! We couldn't have done it without you!

Canon Par Excellence Award

Canon just launched a web page featuring their Par Excellence Award Winners. While we won this award in 2008, it's inaugural year, we are still very proud to be one of it's 33 winners. We are also the only winners to have won with just wedding album entries.

To win the Par Excellence Award, the image maker must receive a score of 80 or above on all four photographic entries. District judges will then consider the maker's entire body of work using PPA's (Professional Photographers of America) "Twelve Elements of a Merit Image."

People often ask us why we still compete in photographic competitions and we can readily tell you its because we relish learning and polishing our craft. While photographers can enter any type of image they wish from fine art, landscapes, etc., we thrive on entering our 'everyday' work. Images that we produce for our clients on a daily basis. It keeps us striving to make our work better for not only ourselves, but also our clients...that is what really matters!

What can we say about Christy & Nick? Well for starters, they are one of the sweetest, friendliest most genuine couples we have ever met. Christy is set on winning the world over one smile at a time and Nick is working right along with her!

Christy and Nick had a lovely morning wedding with a brunch reception to follow. We don't do many of those, but it was very lovely. Guests drank Mimosas, Bloody Mary's and Champagne, while enjoying muffins, fruit and donuts (yumm!) during the cocktail hour. The waffle bar, omelet station and other brunch goodies were thoroughly enjoyed, while listing to the live jazz band...the perfect brunch companion!

For desert Christy and Nick had gourmet cupcakes from the Sugar Cupcakery, which was recently on the Food Network's reality show 'Cupcake Wars.' After brunch guests made good use of the dance floor and danced the morning away. The after party continued into the afternoon and evening at The Fox and Hound in Mason for some added fun!

Christy and Nick are spending their honeymoon on the lush beaches of Hawaii...so jealous, especially since we're expecting another round of snow this week! We've made posts before about all the cool products that we offer our couples that they can use for just about everything they need for their wedding. Basically if it can be printed on, we can do it! Joshua and Kristen are doing a destination wedding in Florida with a 'Send Off Reception' here in Ohio. We did all the design work and printing for their save-the-dates, party invitations, guestbook, wedding favors and welcome bags. We are also doing their programs, place cards and menus too.

Before we did their engagement session, we came up with a plan for what they wanted to accomplish with their session. We knew that we needed to get a guestbook and possibly save-the-dates and invitations out of their session. With that in mind, we incorporated the colors of their Ohio party along with the chalkboard 'thought bubbles.' We used the 'thought bubbles' to make their guestbook more interactive by posing questions to their guests. We also used the chalkboards as part of their invitation design.

Their invitations were 6x9 glossy postcards with rounded corners, which were then shipped in silver pearl envelopes. We used the chalkboards with a 'Thank You' message to make stickers for their party favors.

Their wedding in Florida has a totally different color palette and feel from their Ohio party. Wanting a 'contemporary beach' wedding vibe, they chose bright colors and the starfish as part of their wedding brand. We designed and printed their pocket invitations on pearl paper with pearl envelopes for a beautiful shimmer.

We also designed playing cards, candy bags and stickers to personalize their 'Welcome Bags' for the guests arriving at the hotel. As they finalize the last of their wedding details, we will also be printing their programs, menus and place cards.

Christy and Nick are such a cute couple and their February wedding is coming up soon! They braved the cold (it was 20 degrees out!) and we photographed all around Ault Park. Go figure, but we had the place to ourselves. Enjoying their walk in the park, Christy and Nick even did some playing in the snow with a snowball fight....I think Christy won ;)

They got to warm themselves up with a glass of wine at one of their favorite little wine shops. Certainly a good way to warm things up! We are looking forward to their wedding, which will be the next wedding we post on the blog. See you soon!

Heidi & Matthew at University of Dayton

Even though its chilly outside this time of year, there are still opportunities for outdoor photographs. Heidi and Matthew ventured out into the cold to do their engagement session. If nothing else, the cold temps give you a great excuse to cuddle together!

We had a fun time photographing around the University of Dayton and Courthouse Square. Tying in other Dayton landmarks, their wedding later this year will be at the Racquet Club. We are looking forward to their event....and the warmer weather ;)

Each year the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) holds its annual convention and tens of thousands of photographers from all over the world attend. Even though we aren't speaking this year, you can find us in seminars, the gigantic trade show or in the print exhibit.

Judy and Anthony are such a sweet couple. You can't help but fall in love with them when you see them together. Judy's smile can light up a room and it gets even brighter when she is with Anthony.

Their 1.1.11 wedding was a wonderful way to start the year. Their wedding ceremony was very touching and included many of the people that are very dear to their hearts. Their ceremony also included some firsts for us. Before Judy made her way down the isle, a ballerina danced down the isle to a beautiful song making for one amazing entrance.

We had a wonderful time with all of their friends and family. The wedding party had us laughing all day, and I think the girls even forgave us for doing some of the photos outside ;) Even though they had a big guest list, the wedding still felt very intimate with all the very close relationships that Judy and Anthony have nurtured over the years. It was obvious that there is a lot of love around the two!

Anne and Chris are high school sweethearts who waited eight years for this one very special day. They both love New Year's and thought it would be fun to make their wedding reception an awesome New Year's Eve party!

Their ceremony and reception were both held at one of our favorite venues, The Dayton Art Institute. Aside from being at a great venue, they also lucked out with weather that was unseasonable warm allowing us to do most of their photographs outside. I loved Anne's use of royal blue and silver for their winter wedding. Anne even wore beautiful blue peep toe shoes for her 'something blue.'

We had a lot of fun with Anne, Chris and their great friends and family, and couldn't have asked for a better wedding to end the year with! Anne and Chris also got to start the New Year off to a great start with a Caribbean cruise that they are enjoying this week. Lauren & Ryan's Winter Wedding!

Lauren & Ryan are a super sweet couple that planned a classic Winter/Christmas wedding. Lauren used lots of vibrant reds, white, silver and snowflakes to make their winter wonderland. The church was decorated beautifully in preparation for Christmas with lots of trees, lights and Poinsettias everywhere.

The wedding party and family were troopers braving the cold for some outdoor shots with the snowy backdrop around the church. It isn't always a given that we have snow this time of year, so we were happy that the weather cooperated just enough for us to go outside and enjoy it.

Lauren and Ryan booked The Crystal Room for the reception, which had just recently opened. The coffee and coco station with homemade biscotti was a big hit with everyone trying to stay warm on a winters evening. It was a beautiful wedding with lots of family and friends brought together to celebrate such a wonderful occasion!

Emily & Jared are a super sweet couple and we had a great time photographing them (and their doggies) at Cox Arboretum this fall. Their wedding is this spring on Marco Island, Florida and we are very lucky that they are having us photograph their destination wedding. Lauren & Matt's E-Session

Lauren and Matt are such a cute couple. We had a lot of fun photographing them at the Dayton Art Institute and the Masonic Temple...certainly popular spots for photos. After the 'formal' engagement pics were over, they slipped on their Ohio State jerseys for a photo opp. True Buckeye fans for sure!

We're looking forward to their wedding next year at the scenic Country Club of the North. Congratulations....and go Bucks!

Kellie and Brandon at Cox Arboretum

Certainly a popular spot in the fall, we headed to Cox Arboretum for Kellie and Brandon's engagement session. I have to give them credit because we went all over the park, including finding a bridge that I never even knew was there. All the exercise paid off because we did get some great autumn photos.

To say that Judith and Anthony are a cute couple is an understatement. We had a lot of fun photographing them at Lincoln Park this fall. They chose Lincoln Park and the Fraze because they love attending shows and concerts together. Their wedding is quickly approaching on New Year's Day in Cincinnati. Michele and Craig wanted to capture the fall colors so off to Cox Arboretum we went! We had a great time photographing all over the park and even their cute puppy got in a few shots. Both locations have beautiful classic architecture, which makes for a great spot for photographing. Maria & Chris at Cox Arboretum

Maria and Chris had a little bit of a chilly fall day for their engagement session, but at least that gave them a good excuse to cuddle together for photos. We hiked all over Cox Arboretum to take advantage of all the great fall colors.

Their wedding next year is at the elegant and historic Hilton Netherland Plaza. The hotel is known for it's art deco decor, which makes for lots of great photo opportunities. Plus, we'll be within walking distance to lots of other great areas around downtown Cincy. Congrats guys!

Carol & Tom's at Dayton Art Institute

Carol and Tom were able to enjoy the last of the warm fall weather and do their engagement session at DAI. The two are big history buffs and are planning their honeymoon in Italy...so jealous! The elegant backdrop of the museum was perfect for their wedding with an Italian flare.

As you can see in the last photo, Tom has a fun sense of humor. Needless to say, we are looking forward to their wedding at the Bell Event Center next year. If you haven't heard of the Bell before you should check them out. It's a really neat venue for events. Congrats guys!

Jasmine & Aaron at the Great American Ballpark!

Again, we lucked out with another amazing November day for a wedding! The weather was perfect for photographing Jasmine and Aaron at the Great American Ballpark, which is the home of Cincinnati Reds.

Jasmine and Aaron are a super sweet couple and we had a great time laughing it up with their wise cracking wedding party. It was fun photographing at the ballpark with the city of Cincinnati in the background. Their ceremony was at the Cincinnati Art Museum, which gave us another beautiful backdrop for photographs.

Jasmine and Aaron planned a fun cocktails and hors dourves reception, perfect for mingling in the Riverfront Room. The views of the ballpark and the Cincinnati skyline filled every window, which looked beautiful at night. Certainly a fantastic evening for everyone!

Anne Blair and Will at Drees Pavilion, Cincinnati

Last Saturday we lucked out and had the perfect weather for a mid-November wedding, which was wonderful since we were photographing at the scenic Drees Pavilion. We also lucked out and got to work with some of Cincinnati's best vendors. Since Anne Blair's Aunt Patti owns Take 1 Video, Blair had the inside scoop on who to hire.

Will and Anne Blair had a beautiful color palette of rich fuchsia and purple. Drees was decorated to resemble a sophisticated nightclub, including a lounge area with white sofas and furniture. The color wash of lighting really offset the dance floor and complimented the Cincinnati skyline in the windows.

We had a wonderful time laughing with Anne Blair and Will and their fun wedding party. Their families made us feel like we were part of the family too! Katie & Matthew at Carillon Park

Katie and Matthew are such a sweet couple and we thoroughly enjoyed sharing such a special day with them. Katie and Matthew (along with their wedding party and family) had us laughing all day. We lucked out too with great weather for a late fall wedding!

Katie and Matthew had a beautiful color palette for their event tying in some nontraditional fall elements. I loved the cabbage roses in the bouquets and centerpieces. Matthew (who apparently has a small obsession with cardigans) added a sweater vest to his suit, which looked elegant and was a great replacement to the traditional vest. The rich plum color accents were a perfect addition...the guys even had matching plum argyle socks.

October's Inspire Me! Board

Each month we are featuring a wedding that stands out with lots of creative colors, details and ideas. Hopefully you'll find some design inspiration of your own!

Since October is usually associated with a fall color scheme we thought we would show you Sara & Chris' twist to a fall color palette. Instead of going with the usual orange, red, yellow and brown fall palette, they went for a more 'organic' look with white pumpkins, chocolate cosmos flowers, moss and greenery that had more of a gray tone to it by using plants like lamb's ear. They added a hint of gold for just the right amount of shimmer.

Next month we will feature Holly & Rockford's classic and elegant ivory and gold color scheme. Having such a classic color palette suits wedding year round, but can be especially elegant for winter weddings.

Joshua & Kristen's E-Session

This past weekend we photographed Joshua and Kristen's engagement session all around downtown Dayton. For those of you who don't know, Joshua is Mark's son. We've been having a lot of fun helping them plan their wedding parties.

Joshua and Kristen are doing a destination wedding in Florida next year, but are having a 'Send Off' Reception in Dayton first. In the top photo, we are going to be using the chalkboard photos for their Ohio party invitation's, favors and an interactive guestbook. We'll show you the finished work to you soon!

It's a lot of work to plan two separate parties, each with different themes and styles, but it will be a lot of fun too! We'll keep everyone posted with wedding updates as we go through the planning process.
